In the 2023/24 season, VTB United League, with the support of SIBUR, will hold a series of environmental matches in all clubs and organize special zones in the foyer of the arena, where fans will be able to participate in activations dedicated to ecology and basketball.
The first of 14 environmental matches will be held on March 21 in Almaty (BC Astana, Kazakhstan). MINSK Basketball Club will hold an ecomatch on March 24 at the Falcon Club Arena in a duel against Runa.
On the day of the eco-match in the arena lobby, viewers will be able to answer questions from a special quiz, take pictures and receive a printed creative photo in which artificial intelligence will help portray a fan in the image of a superhero saving the planet. Also, in the foyer of the arena, a collection of batteries and plastic caps will be organized, which will be sent for recycling and will receive a second life. These activations convey a very simple but important meaning: every fan, by donating waste for recycling, makes a significant contribution to the conservation of nature.
VTB United League is actively working on the development and support of eco-educational initiatives. Together with the League's long–term partner, SIBUR, many successful eco–projects have been implemented. So, back in 2018, the partners presented the first eco-house made of recycled plastic. Today, the official ball of the League and its business card is the updated Ecoball 2.0, which became the first Russian ball to receive a certificate from the International FIBA Basketball Federation of the highest level.
